JemisinSaturday, Feb. 3 | 11 am -12 pm | RML Kennedy Room In The City We Became, an infection is spreading across New York City. It spreads rapidly from person to person, and its goal is nothing less than to destroy everything that makes New York a living, breathing, vital organism. But it’s not a book about how New York falls apart, but rather a love letter to the city’s resilience, and to all the ways it overcomes hatred to rise up stronger than it was before. If you’ve never explored sci-fi, Jemisin is the author to start with – the only person ever to win the prestigious Hugo Award three years in a row. New Read-Aloud Books for KidsWe’ve added a new collection to our Children’s room called VOX books. These are beautiful print books that have a built-in audio reader so kids can hear and read-along at the same time! There’s no need for extra technology like a computer or smartphone – VOX books are an all in one reader that comes fully charged and ready to go, which makes them convenient to use anywhere (they also have a built in headphone jack). VOX books are great for beginning and reluctant readers, English language learners, audio learners, as well as a much needed replacement for screen time! Try them in the car, in the stroller, at bedtime – really anywhere. Our new collection includes picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels! Big Little Art ShowBack for its second year! Come pick up a mini canvas starting Feb. 5th. All ages are invited to participate and any style is welcome! Pick up is at the front desk – please let us know in advance if you need a large number for your family or a group. Returned art will go on display in the months to follow.
