Featured Collections

Book List: Best New Black Voices
Discover some new writing from Black authors. These books were all published within the last few years and includes fiction, nonfiction, memoir, self help and even cookbooks. Bonus, they are all available at Rose Memorial Library. On display and available online.

Black Freedom Struggle in the United States
A curated selection of primary sources designed for teaching and learning about the struggles and triumphs of Black Americans. Developed with input from Black history scholars and advisors, its easily discoverable materials are ideal for assignments and special projects focused on U.S. Black history. Noteworthy items include the Black Lives Matter photo collection, and FBI records!

Kanopy – African American Cinema
Enjoy cinema created and directed by Black artists. Kanopy is known for its award-winning movies, TV shows, and documentaries. This collection explores arts and culture, sports, political leaders and activists and more. Free with your Library card.

Book Club: The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin

New Read-Aloud Books for Kids

We’ve added a new collection to our Children’s room called VOX books. These are beautiful print books that have a built-in audio reader so kids can hear and read-along at the same time! There’s no need for extra technology like a computer or smartphone – VOX books are an all in one reader that comes fully charged and ready to go, which makes them convenient to use anywhere (they also have a built in headphone jack). VOX books are great for beginning and reluctant readers, English language learners, audio learners, as well as a much needed replacement for screen time! Try them in the car, in the stroller, at bedtime – really anywhere. Our new collection includes picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels!

Big Little Art Show

Back for its second year! Come pick up a mini canvas starting Feb. 5th. All ages are invited to participate and any style is welcome! Pick up is at the front desk – please let us know in advance if you need a large number for your family or a group. Returned art will go on display in the months to follow.

Health & Wellness

We’re proud to partner with the town to offer no-cost health and wellness classes off-site. Must be a Stony Point resident. No registration required.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is just Yoga with a prop (the chair). Although it may be especially beneficial for beginners, seniors or those recovering from injuries, it is an excellent practice for anyone at any level. Build strength & balance while learning breath work and mindfulness with Lonnie June.

Paint and decorate a mask. Perfect for a parade, party or Mardi Gras! We will have all the materials you need and some mask ideas for inspiration.

Basket Weaving

Saturday, March 23 | 10 am – 3 pm |
Join Robin Ingram to learn how to weave a basket. Space is limited.
Learn to weave a Two by Two continuous weave basket. Your choice of colors in the dyed reed. There is a $16 Materials Fee due at least 2 weeks before the class. This program will be held at the Patriot Hills Community Center. It will last approximately four and a half hours with time for a lunch break.

Get Ready for a Solar Eclipse!

Wednesday, March 13 | 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm | ZOOM ( all ages)
In this ZOOM presentation we’ll examine the mechanics of what causes eclipses as well how you can safely observe and enjoy this amazing astronomical event which is taking place in real life on April 8th (If the weather is fair, we should have no difficulty observing a partial or even a total eclipse of the sun from much of North America.) Get tips for seeing the eclipse as well as learn about the fascinating history of this dramatic natural event.
