Dear Rose Memorial Library Community,
First and foremost, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to you! We deeply appreciate the many ways in which you show your ongoing support of Rose Memorial Library, including:
- Attending programs
- Utilizing library materials and resources, both in person and online
- Spending time at the library
- Making donations
- Sharing stories of your experiences
- Approving Proposition 2 on the November ballot
We understand that you may have many questions about what happens next, and we appreciate your patience. The official results of the ballot initiative were too close to call immediately and were not officially confirmed until early December. We are thrilled to share that Proposition 2 was approved by voters in the Stony Point community, which will allow us to better serve this community in the manner it both needs and deserves!
Unfortunately, because the Stony Point Town Board approved the Town’s 2025 budget on October 22, 2024—before the November election—and did not include the voter-approved funding in that budget, the increased funding will not be available to the library until 2026. Our request to amend the 2025 budget to include the approved increase was denied. This delay means that we will not be able to break ground on a new building in 2025. Additionally, we will not be able to extend our opening hours to include Tuesday and Thursday evenings, nor will we be able to expand programming, particularly for adults, to the level we had hoped for until 2026.
However, this delay does not mean that progress toward a new building and expanded operations will come to a halt. The library and its team of experts will continue working toward securing the necessary building code approvals. We will be applying for construction grants and addressing the many details of the plan and team so that we can move forward with purpose and momentum as soon as we are financially able.
You, our friends, neighbors, patrons, and community members, have our sincerest thanks for your continued support of and engagement with Rose Memorial Library. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. We wish you all a happy, healthy, and peaceful 2025.
Warmest regards,
The Staff and Board of Rose Memorial Library
