We are excited to share some new changes and improvements happening here at the Library, designed to enhance your experience and make our space even more welcoming.

Local History Room Reopening
We are pleased to announce the reopening of our Local History Room, now available for public browsing and small group study. Whether you’re researching the rich history of Stony Point and surrounding area, or simply looking for a quiet space to study or take an exam, this room is ready for you. Our Local History collection includes biographies of town leaders and generals; more than 300 nonfiction works about our founding, building, development and natural wonders; a variety of maps and artistic pieces; a small number of period fiction works; as well as yearbooks and creative writing by community members throughout the generations. Come explore! All of our collection will in time be digitized and made accessible from home.

New Study/Reading Spaces
In response to feedback from many of you, we’ve added a 4-person reading/study table, providing a dedicated space for focused work or group study. We’ve also increased seating options throughout the library, perfect for lounging, reading, or taking a break between programs.

As many of you know, we did not receive increased funding for 2025, but we are committed to making the best use of our current budget to improve the library’s offerings and space. (Rose Memorial Library is slated to receive the funding in early 2026). In addition to the above, we continue to provide innovative print and digital offerings, and increased programming, including more evening programs designed for working adults.

We hope these changes will make your visits more enjoyable and provide you with the resources you need to learn, relax, and connect with others in our community.

Messy Meetups | Wednesday May 7 & May 14, 11:30 am

Join us for a free explore program at Vincent Clark Park featuring fun sensory/messy activities. Proper outdoor play clothing is recommended; and close adult supervision is also required. Program is weather permitting.

Circle Time | Monday May 5, May 12 & May 19, 11:30 am

Join us at Vincent Clark Park for stories, music, shakers, bubbles and fun! Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Program is weather permitting.

Sci-Fi Book Club Meetup

Watercolors – Bokeh Technique

Wednesday, May 21, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

The bokeh effect, originating in photography, involves intentionally blurring the background of an image to create a soft, out-of-focus effect, often with circular highlights. In painting, this technique is used to create a similar aesthetic, mimicking the lens blur and creating a dreamy or ethereal background.

Botanical Luminary

Monday, May 19, 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Join us to create a paper lantern and use pressed botanicals to decorate it. You are welcome to bring your own pressed flowers and leaves but we will have some as well.

Learn to Sketch

Wednesday, May 7, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Learn to sketch… Interior Landscapes! Master techniques of line, texture and shading to create dimensionality in your drawing. Each session will focus on different aspects to help you sketch what you see!

Reverse Decoupage Vase

Monday, May 19, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Create a scene on the inside of a vase, using pieces of magazines and various papers. Vase and materials provided. You may want to have a scene in mind beforehand.
