The final open community forum about Ballot Proposal 2: an increase in funding for Rose Memorial Library Association, is being held in the Kennedy Room at Rose Memorial Library on Friday, November 1 from 10:00 -11:00 am. During this forum RMLA will be sharing information about the plans for the increased funding; walking through updated models, renderings, and charts explaining the building project from various angles; and answering community members’ questions. We hope to see you there!

The Great Giveback Food Drive

Bring a nonperishable food item to the Library for Rockland Community Against Hunger. Let’s make sure all Rockland families can enjoy a quality Thanksgiving meal! Donation box is on the first floor of the Library. We will be collecting through the week of Thanksgiving.

Requested items:

Holiday treats (stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce)
Canned goods (vegetables, fruits, soups, beans)
Pasta and rice
Cereal and oatmeal
Peanut butter and jelly
Shelf-stable milk or juices
Healthy snacks: Granola bars, Nuts and seeds, Dried fruits
Baby food and formula
Cooking essentials: Cooking oil, spices, and seasoning packets.

ADULTS

Painting & Drawing Classes – Wednesdays
Join us for a variety of beginner drawing & painting classes, exploring watercolors, acrylics & drawing basics. We’ll be doing some seasonal designs!

Crafternoons with Joy
Join Joy, our Adult Programming Coordinator, to learn a new craft. November crafts include paper clay sculpture, jute bottles, sea glass stained glass, shell decoupage, and more. Offered Mondays & Wednesdays, 12 pm and 2 pm, throughout the month.

Medicare Info Session
Thursday, Nov. 14, 11 am – 12 pm
A counselor with the Office for the Aging of Rockland County will discuss upcoming Medicare changes. There will be on site application assistance available for Medicare Savings program.

Fitness Classes at Patriot Hills Community Center

Bring your own craft to this fun meetup. Work while chatting and making new friends. Get help and feedback on your craft project. All projects welcome.

New – Mahjong! 6 Week Series
Fridays, 11 am – 12 pm at Patriot Hills Senior Center (19 Clubhouse Lane, Stony Point)
Learn to play Mahjong and make some new friends! There is a $25 fee to enroll in this series (pay at the Circulation desk or call us for more info). Limited seats please register now. Starts THIS Friday, Nov. 1.

Book Club

Join the RML book club! In November we’ll be discussing Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. If you are a new member and just want to see what the club is all about- that’s fine! Come on out, say hi and enjoy some snacks. Our December meeting is a holiday potluck on Sunday 12/8 from 11 am – 2 pm, so come join us for food and a discussion of The Paris Wife, by Paula McLain.

Herbal Arts Workshops:
Discussion on Pain Management: Monday, Nov. 4, 3 pm – 5 pm
Cough Syrup: Monday, Nov. 18, 3 pm – 5 pm
Learn about plants, why and when to use particular herbs for different issues, and how to create various preparations. We will discuss general health, diet, exercise & sleep, as well as herbal & supplemental support.

Local History Lecture

Rockland’s Fight for Independence: The Baylor Massacre
Saturday, Nov. 9, 2 pm – 4 pm

Joseph Amster will present an engaging talk on this lesser known but important event that occurred in the Hudson Valley during the Revolutionary War. Free to the public. This event will take place at the Patriot Hills Community Center (19 Clubhouse Lane, Stony Point NY), in the Board Room.

TEENS

Thanksgiving Diamond Art
Friday, Nov. 15, 6 pm – 7:30 pm

Diamond Art is like Paint-By-Numbers, but using little acrylic diamond pieces to create one dynamic image made with thousands of little gems. Create a small frameable Thanksgiving image to take home. For grades 4 and up.

KIDS

“On Your Own” Preschool Storytime
Tuesdays, 11 am – 11:45 am at the Library. Starts Nov. 12.

This is an independent story class in a small group setting. The program includes stories, songs and simple crafts/games/playtime. For ages 3-5 ( must be 3 by start of program).

All Day Crafternoon
Tuesday, Nov. 5
Drop in anytime between 10:30 am – 4 pm and choose from a variety of craft projects geared toward ages 3-9. No registration necessary!

Zumbini
Wednesdays, 11:30 am at the Library. Starts Nov. 6.
Zumbini with Tina combines music, dance and educational tools for 45 minutes of can’t-stop, won’t-stop bonding, learning, and fun! For ages 0-5.

Fun with Playdough
Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2:30 pm
Create, use tools, & add silly decorations. Ages 2.5-5.

Thanksgiving Placemats
Preschoolers: Friday, Nov. 22, 10:30 am & 2:30 pm
