The final results of the voting tally from Election Day, November 7th were announced on November 15th as follows, including all the absentee ballots: Yes votes: 2226 No votes: 2329 (lost by 103 votes). The Library Board has canceled its contract for purchasing the Old School and has received back the deposit. The Board will now study its options for 2018 and following.
We worked so hard to get the word out to people that we had something special available for a “new” library, in the form of the Old School in Stony Point… but we were disappointed that the public turned it down. It was really a close vote: 2105 (Yes) to 2217 (No). The Board of Elections still has to count the absentee ballots, once the deadline for receipt has passed, so there is still an outside chance that we might squeeze by. In the meantime we are still running programs for all ages and checking out DVDs and books. All you need is a library card!
